A slice of life from WA! That’s what we try to bring you on The ZigaZag Mag. And today it’s all about cultural things to do in Bunbury – specifically, go to an Opera! Why not?

Opera Australia present Mozart’s brilliant opera, the Marriage of Figaro at BREC, The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.

From an award-winning creative team, Marriage of Figaro stars a chorus of local children and features beautiful sets, period costuming, a chamber orchestra and some of Opera Australia’s best voices. Sung entirely in English this is a wonderful introduction to opera.

Award-winning creative duo Michael Gow and Robert Kemp have created a brand new production, featuring stunning period costumes and a clever set. A talented chamber orchestra and chorus of local children will accompany some of Opera Australia’s finest singers performing to Mozart’s beautiful music.

It’s a big day on the estate of Count Almavia, just outside of Seville. The Court’s servant Figaro and The Countess’ maid Susanna are to be married. But not everyone is happy about the wedding.

The Count has had his eye on Susanna for some time. The house keeper Marcellina finds herself strongly attracted to Figaro and her former flame. Dr Bartolo, was once in love with Susanna and would prefer the wedding not to happen. Marcellina has lent Figaro money and the contract states if he doesn’t repay the loan he has to marry Marcellina.

  1. Hi Jill, Glad you heard it on ZigaZag first! But sad you didn’t get to see the opera. It was a lot of fun. Great cast and production. I never realised opera could be so amusing though – humorous tale and acting 🙂
