Move over Manu Feildel, you have competition! Because Gilles England-Brassy at Sea Gardens in Prevelli, near Margaret River is giving you a run for your money in the sexy French accent stakes – and the restaurant’s menu is definitely something to write home about too!
Sea Gardens, or ‘Seadies’ as it’s affectionately known by locals is a casual bistro style cafe that’s won some heavyweight awards including Favourite Family Restaurant WA in the the Lifestyle Channel, ‘I Love Food Awards 2009/10’. It’s open seven days a week and has another claim to fame – it’s one of only two restaurants south of Busselton with ocean views.
We like going there for the casual atmosphere, the bumper brekkies, and the great pizzas which we enjoy most on a hot summer’s evening watching the sunset and sipping a glass of cool Preveli SSB (from Preveli Wines – tastings and sales at the Prevelly General Store next door). It feels like going round to friend’s for dinner, except you don’t have to cook.
Sorry girls, but Gilles has a gorgeous wife, Rachel, who cooks up a storm with her deliciously naughty cakes. She’s also the restaurant’s PR person and writes a regular newsletter in which you can find out about the laid back music evenings (particularly jazz) which attract artists from all over the country.
After working up an appetite surfing the famous ‘Bombie’ surf break or kayaking up the Margaret River, fishing from the jetty, or just lying on the beach, why not drop in to Seadies, for brekkie, brunch or dinner? Rock up in thongs and boardies (make sure you book for dinner) and enjoy some great tucker and that lovely view. Oh, and watch out for actor, Ben Elton, who Gilles says is becoming somewhat of a regular.
