We spent a lovely 3 day mid week break at the Pullman Bunker Bay Resort recently.
We booked Pullman Bunker Bay Resort via Booking.Com and found a fabulous discount deal.
The resort is situated near Dunsborough and situated directly above Bunker Bay, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in South West Australia.
If you’re looking for a 5 star experience in a classy setting, close to a beach with wonderful facilities (think spa, gym, pool and private walkway to the beach) then if you’re after Bunker Bay accommodation The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is for you.
Pullman Bunker Bay Resort – who’s this resort for?
People wanting to get away from it all.
Anyone in need of rest and recuperation.
People booking weddings and conferences.
What’s on offer?
Nestled on the white sands of Bunker Bay, 5-star Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is located within a short, private walk down to the beach on boardwalks.
Pullman Bunker Bay resort offers 150 luxuriously appointed bungalow-style villas in contemporary Australian architectural style which are nestled unobtrusively in pretty natural vegetation adjoining a national park.
Villas offer beach access via boardwalks through landscaped grounds and are complemented by award-winning world class dining and recreation facilities.
The resort is apparently one of the largest conference and event venues in the South West of Western Australia and weddings are also popular in season.
Other Side of the Moon Restaurant
The Pullman Bunker Bay ‘Other Side of the Moon’ is a stylish restaurant and bar featuring modern Australian cuisine underpinned by a Mediterranean feel. Overlooking Bunker Bay and the sweeping Indian Ocean, with the rim flow pool just below it’s a fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch because the view is spectacular. Go for dinner too, but my advice would be to book in time for a sundowner to catch the sunset before night sets in.
What are the rooms like at Pullman Bunker Bay?
Our one bedroom studio was luxurious and spacious with a comfortable king size bed. We had two pillows each one hard and one soft.
There was a sitting area and kitchenette and a large bathroom with bath and shower looking out onto a private courtyard area.
The studio was secluded with its own private entrance and a small balcony with a glimpse of the sea.
The amenities within the studio were all we could have wished for.
What’s to love?
The situation of the resort is superb. The rooms are secluded and spacious.
You’ll love The beach. That beautiful Bunker Bay!
And of course the nearby bays and beaches you can easily drive to along Eagle Bay road.
The rim view pool at Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is gorgeous. Big enough to do laps. Heated. Fantastic setting.
The grounds are pretty and lead down to the sea via a private walkway consisting of boardwalks which run over a small lake, through a section of bushland and then across a sand dune to the most breathtaking stretch of beach – Bunker Bay.
We had fantastic service from the staff who took my initial phone calls and fielded my queries, from the staff at reception, from the waiters and waitresses in the restaurant. It was all superb.
It was out 30th Wedding anniversary and when we mentioned this we were treated to a bottle of complimentary wine. This was a lovely touch.
I think the Other Side of the Moon restaurant offers possibly the best sea view of any restaurant in the region. We saw whales frolicking in Bunker Bay as we had breakfast on the deck.
Tip: Even if you don’t stay at the hotel then do go for breakfast. The buffet is lovely, the views are gorgeous and to sit outside overlooking the pool, the bushland and the sea on a sunny day is magical.
The breakfast buffet is extensive with lots of choices – there’s even a juicer and fresh fruit and veggies with recipes of the day for you to try out.
The studios are really well equipped. Apart from all the other usual amenities, I loved having a dishwasher – we did a little self catering and it was wonderful not to have to wash up.
Self catering – we bought snacks from a local deli for supper one evenng.
What didn’t we like so much?
We thought the balcony of our room was a little small – only just big enough for two to sit at the table with one of us in the sun. However, the studio itself was spacious and with floor length windows we didn’t really need to spend time on the balcony.
The breakfast buffet could up the ante a little with regard to small details such as heated plates would be nice – my eggs, bacon and tomatoes were cold by the time I returned to our table. The hot water for the filter coffee wasn’t (in our opinion) hot enough, although we asked for hotter water it didn’t materialise.
Dinner was okay. The starter was good.
But for my main course I found the chicken breast was dry and uninspiring.
However, the Ice cream dessert was pretty to look at and yum to eat.
Best time to go
We went mid week at the end of October and the resort was quiet, the swimming pool practically empty, the beach populated by only a handful of walkers and surfers. It was blissful.
Spring is a lovely time to visit the South West as long as you don’t want to wallow in the sea (as it’s not yet warm). I’d probably avoid school holidays, and also the wedding season if you want peace and quiet.
Also avoid fly season.
If you want to use the beach and the pool to their full advantage, then February to April would be ideal because of the hot WA weather.
What I’d like to try next time?
Definitely the Spa!
And I’d book for longer so that I had more time to sit around and read a book in beautiful surroundings.
I’d like more time to wander around nearby Dunsborough which is beautiful with lots of boutiques, interesting cafes, galleries and a gorgeous beach. There’s also a nice walk or bicycle ride which hugs the beach under the trees and another coastal walk leading the other way to Castle Rock.
