Somewhere we like to visit regularly for a weekend, or just an overnight getaway, is Margaret River and we love staying in various Margaret River cottages for the flexibility that self catering accommodation gives us.

Where to stay in Margaret River?

Margaret River Cottages – Riverglen Chalets.

There is a fair amount of budget accommodation in Margaret River but one of our favourite mid-range places to stay is Riverglen Chalets on Carter’s Road.

Surprisingly, these well appointed Margaret River cottages are not going to break the bank in the general scheme of things, and as Margaret River Holiday cottages go they are quaint, in a beautiful setting, at a mid-range to budget price.

Riverglen Chalets Margaret River are set amongst 7 acres of forested parkland on the outskirts of Margaret River itself.

You can easily walk along the river into Margaret River township, a route which is both reasonably flat and picturesque.

Perhaps you might choose to have breakfast at the quirky Margaret River Bakery or enjoy dinner and a glass of wine or two at one of the great Margaret River restaurants situated along the high street.

Margaret River Accommodation

Margaret River is a popular holiday destination, and accommodation is likely to book out during school holidays. So do book Riverglen Chalets in advance if you can.

Self Contained Accommodation Margaret River

Booking self contained accommodation in Margaret River is a popular choice as it gives you greater flexibility and more space if you’re travelling with friends or family.

The self catering wooden chalets at Riverglen are clean and comfortable and come in a range of sizes suitable not only for empty nesters like us, but also for families.

We really enjoy relaxing on the wooden deck with a glass of wine at sunset or enjoying breakfast in the company of kookaburras, parrots and honey eaters making silly bird noises to attract them!

In the winter we love curling up with a good book by the wood fire, perhaps borrowing a video from the games room, or maybe  jumping on our push bikes and going on an energetic ride along the railway track to Cowaramup.

We’ve stayed at Riverglen Chalets many times, the most recently when my husband and a friend challenged themselves to cycle 1000km around South West Australia for charity.

For that night Riverglen kindly sponsored our stay in a spacious two bedroom chalet. After a tough ride of around 80kms Dave and Tony were ready to relax in front of a wood fire, which ultimately wasn’t necessary as the staff had kindly put the heating on in the chalet and turned on bedside lamps, which made it look and feel very homely on arrival.

The chalets are ideal for family and friends. They’re set in natural forest, but also have sweeping driveways surrounded by manicured lawns and lovely orchards. When we arrived oranges were in season, and the trees were abundant with fruit.

Close enough to walk into Margaret River for a meal out or visit the distillery at the bottom of the drive.

The beds are spacious and comfortable too.

Why Visit Riverglen Chalets?

Riverglen is a fabulous place to stay just out of the bustling Margaret River township, and yet close enough to walk to the shops or to go out for dinner.

The chalets really are in a pretty setting, and a great place to relax or just sit on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the kookaburras.

If you stay at Riverglen in winter, you might find yourself there right in the middle of the Whale Watching season which is always an exciting time to visit. A whale watching tour is incredibly exciting.

In summer there are wonderful nearby beaches to visit. Plus some fabulous craft breweries – check out this post: Beaches and Breweries and oh so many things to do – Wine tours are really fun and popular.
