Good Food and Wine Show, Perth Convention Centre
Report by Ingrid Rickersey.
Friday and Saturday we spent at the Good Food and Wine show in Perth, tasting all the gourmet delicacies, including some of the best South West olives I have ever tasted, washed down with a selection of fine wines, many from of our South West wineries.
We loved the diversity of the food displays, good wineries and all the latest cooking and kitchen gadgets.
Master Chef Gurus and judges, George Columbaris and Gary Mehigan (pictured above), were there doing demos, cooking and signing books. We also watched Mat Moran cooking up a storm – first carving up a whole side of lamb, giving away various cuts to lucky members in the audience.
I navigated my way through a range of wines from riesling and chardonnay to pinot noirs, cabernet merlots to spicy shiraz. I even attended a wine class improving my knowledge about wines and enjoying the experience of the floral aromatic characteristics of whites and appreciating the difference between oaked and unoaked chardonnay and the rich warm colours and diverse flavours of the reds.
I was reminded of the expressions – “Oh so many wines and so little time” and “Life is too short to drink bad wine”.
