Whales & Dolphins in Bunbury

Bunbury mecca for whales and dolphins.

Bunbury is renowned for it’s dolphins and the Dolphin Discovery Centre on Koombana Bay, but it could soon become a whale-watching mecca. Kate Murnane reporting in the Bunbury Herald on Tuesday August 10th, said that “Industry leaders have called for Bunbury to become the next whale watching capital.”

It was further reported that  there would be about 22,00 whales migrating along the South West coast this season, many of them Southern Right whales which have been sighted in Koombana Bay. Mr Coulthard, Dolphin Discovery Centre marine biologist said that if whale population continues to rise and the whales continue to rest and breed in Koombana Bay then Bunbury could, potentially in 5 – 10 years rank as one of the best land and boat-based locations to view whales in Western Australia.
