With the holiday season only just around the corner, now is the time to start getting serious about Christmas shopping. This year though; ditch the unoriginal gift ideas like socks and a tie, shopping centre gift vouchers or a bottle of something drinkable and think outside the box – think unique christmas ideas.

Christmas in Perth is renowned for its sizzling weather, feel-good beach vibes, picnics by or on the Swan River, and experiencing the best WA has to offer throughout the holiday season. And tapping into this can bring some fantastically unique gift ideas for the Perthian.

Finding the perfect gift doesn’t always need to mean something tangible. Giving the gift of an experience (even if it means wrapping up a ticket or two in a box) creates memories that last a lot longer than just Christmas day.  And it gives you something big to look forward to as well! Whether you opt for a unique gift idea or an exhilarating experience for your loved ones, here are a few alternatives that’ll make this year one to remember.

Unique Christmas gifts

1. Wildlife Encounter

Western Australia is renowned for its brilliant beaches and wildlife encounters – and every Perthian should experience some of these wonders at least once a year! For those that have their diving ticket or love snorkelling, a voucher to swim with the sharks at AQWA will get them excited this Christmas. There’s a whole range of tours from Rockingham too; from swimming with the dolphins to a Penguin Island cruise which gives you access to the beautiful island, perfect swimming spots and fairy penguin sightseeing. For those that crave a little more of an adventure, head down south to Busselton and book a whale watching tour!

2. Tandem Skydiving Ticket

Only adrenalin junkies need apply for this one! But treating someone to a bucket list tick off is always a goodie for Christmas. Those that have taken the skydiving plunge will agree that absolutely nothing compares to the thrill and adrenaline rush of a tandem skydive. Experience it in one of Perth’s best locations – Rottnest Island, and you have your holiday season complete. Head to Rotto for the day (overnight and weekend packages are available too) and skydive over the stunning beach. You’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore the island or have a breather at the local pub. Perfect for those summer vibes and any excuse to get away right!?

3. Tasty Wine Club Membership

Instead of getting your friend or family member a bottle of vino this Christmas, invest a little creativity into a wine club membership or subscription. Leave it up to the recipient to pick their favourite drop for the month or utilise wine guru memberships that ‘pick’ the best for your tasting pleasure, like this wine club here or Naked Wines, which invests in local and small wineries with the goods. If funds are tight you don’t have to treat them for the entire year, instead just invest in a month – 6 months so they get a taste of what they’ve been missing out on. Any wine enthusiast will love the opportunity to be treated to something new too!

4. Fremantle Prison Tour

If you have a friend that loves a different kind of thrill, check out the Fremantle prison tours for something a little spooky. As one of WA’s haunted hotspots, the old Freo prison is very popular to visit – even if you have been living in Perth your entire life. There’s a choice of day tours with the complete run down of history which offers an interesting insight into how the prison was run and a day in the life of some of the most violent criminals Australia has ever seen. For those the real adventurer, opt for a torchlight tour at night for the darker side of the prison. There’s also spooky guided tours that take you to the prison, the roundhouse and the Fremantle Arts Centre (the old asylum) for the ultimate scare!

5. Cymbal Art or Personalised Guitar Picks

If you have a music-loving friend that’s craving something different this year, why not choose some drum cymbal art or order some personalised guitar picks? Giving the gift of music with a little flavour, it’s the best way to think outside the box when it comes to music gifts for a friend or family member. For drum enthusiasts, drum cymbals are painted with portraits of some of the world’s best musicians to display in a music room, studio or home. Or check out the personalised guitar picks which enables you to have a band name, logo, image or words engraved onto a quality custom made pick.
